Fire Extinguisher Installation & Maintenance

Sentinel Projects supplies, installs and maintains fire extinguishers across schools, hospitals, commercial estates and residential buildings in Northampton, Cambridge, Oxford, London and the rest of the UK. The right extinguisher, in the right place, serviced on time and signed off. We are FireQual-qualified and BlueSky-certified.

An extinguisher is only useful if it works on the day

A fire extinguisher that is the wrong type, out of charge or overdue a service is worse than no extinguisher at all, because someone reaches for it expecting it to work. Pressure drops, seals perish and units get moved, blocked or quietly emptied without anyone noticing.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the Responsible Person to provide appropriate firefighting equipment and keep it in efficient working order. In practice that means the correct extinguishers for the risks in each area, commissioned on installation and serviced on a regular schedule by a competent person.

Getting the right extinguisher in the right place

Different fires need different extinguishers, and the wrong one can make things worse. Water on an electrical or cooking-oil fire is dangerous, so the type, size and siting of each unit follows the risks in that part of the building rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

We match units to the hazards in each area, mount them at the right height on the correct travel routes, and label them clearly so anyone can find and identify the right extinguisher under pressure. It is a small part of a building fire strategy that is easy to get wrong and easy to put right.

Common questions

Extinguishers need a basic service every year by a competent person, with extended servicing and, for most types, a discharge test at longer intervals. We keep a record of what is due and when.

It depends on the risks in each area. We survey the building and match the type, size and position of each unit to the hazards present, rather than fitting the same thing everywhere.
