Why estates teams choose Sentinel

The directors do the work

Both directors are on site. You deal with one of them from survey to certificate.

FireQual and BlueSky certified

An independent body assesses our competence. That is what your fire risk assessor and insurer will ask to see.

Proven in high-profile buildings

We have worked at The Savoy in London and for Michelin-starred and Forbes-listed clients. A school corridor gets the same tolerances and the same paperwork.

What we do

Sentinel Projects is a UK fire door specialist providing inspection, installation, remediation and passive fire stopping for schools, colleges, hospitals and commercial estates. We are FireQual-qualified and BlueSky-certified, director-led on every project, and we cover Northampton, Cambridge, Oxford, London and the rest of the UK.

Run by the people who fit the doors

Sentinel Projects is run by two directors who both still work on site, not from behind a desk. Between them they bring an NVQ Level 3 in carpentry, an NVQ Level 6 in site management, FireQual qualification, BlueSky registration and over a decade of hands-on experience in fire door installation and remediation.

Every project is director-led, from the first survey to the final certificate, which means the person who quoted the job is the person who checks it has been done properly. That standard has held on buildings ranging from Forbes-listed clients, to The Savoy in London, to schools, hospitals and managed portfolios across the country.

Both directors and all staff are enhanced-DBS background checked, which matters in schools and healthcare settings where that is not optional.

Straight answers to fair questions

“Our doors look fine.”

Fire doors fail on the details you cannot see at a glance. Gaps drift out of tolerance, seals perish, closers weaken. A survey tells you either way. You are under no obligation to book work with us afterwards.

“We already have a contractor.”

Call us when you need a second opinion, extra capacity, or a fast turnaround before an inspection deadline. Plenty of our clients started with one job when their usual supplier could not fit them in.

“We cannot afford the disruption.”

We work term-time, out-of-hours and in phases, and we have done it in live schools and occupied hospital wards.

“How do we justify the spend?”

Failing an inspection, or replacing a door twice, costs more than doing it properly once. We will give you options, we will not over-specify, and you will see the pricing from the survey onward.

Not sure if you need fire doors at all?

If your building is anything other than a single private house, the answer is almost always yes, at least somewhere in it. Fire doors are required on escape routes in commercial buildings, in the shared parts of flats and HMOs, and increasingly on individual flat entrance doors too.

Which doors, and what rating, depends on your building. Our guide breaks it down by building type, or call us for a straight answer.

Common questions

Almost certainly, unless your building is a single private house. Read our full guide on which buildings need fire doors and where, or call us for a straight answer on your building.

No. It is a paid service in its own right, and there is no obligation to book work with us afterwards.

Around half a day per door for standard work. Bigger jobs take longer, and your survey report gives a timescale before anything is booked.

Yes, through regular inspection. We can carry out the quarterly or annual checks your building needs by law and remediate anything that drifts out of tolerance.
